Book Review: Finding the Will of God by Bruce Waltke

“Finding the Will of God” is another excellent analysis of God’s view from Scripture on determining the “Will of God.” In many ways, like “Decision  Making and the Will of God” by Gary Friesen, Waltke disposes the traditional view of determining the exact “dot” of the precise, specific will of God in life. God is not concerned with what socks you wear or what car you buy, except as it relates to Biblical principles of stewardship, etc. Continue reading

Book Review: Borderline Personality by Cathy Wiseman

“Borderline Personality” is a short booklet on an extremely important topic. There is a secular approach, which identified the title “Borderline Personality,” and Wiseman takes the secular title, description and looks at what the real heart demand is. Borderline Personality is a feeling-centered way of life characterized by frantic efforts to avoid abandonment, disturbances that “cause” instability, extreme idealization and devaluation, angry outbursts, paranoid ideation and impulsivity. Wiseman focuses on what kinds of things trigger the feelings and reactions, but then looks at what the real heart demand is and compares what God says in Scripture. Continue reading

Book Review: Decision Making & the Will of God by Gary Friesen

How do you know what the will of God is? That is one of the most often asked questions in my years of pastoring. Most Christian people know God has a plan for their lives and because Scripture says God is perfect, they believe God has a perfect will for them. They assume that that perfect will is within the framework of moral living and within that framework there is a “dot” that prescribes what His perfect will it. Friesen describes that as the Traditional View and since I have been a holder of that view, I agree with him. Continue reading

Book Review: Self-Injury by Edward Welch

“Self-Injury” is a short booklet on helping people who inflict pain on themselves. For some who are struggling with emotional issues, pressures, fears, etc., self-injury seems like a good way to protect themselves from something worse. It may not make sense to most people, but the inflicted pain becomes something over which the person, who feels life is out-of-control, can gain some semblance of control, even if it means greater pain. The physical pain becomes a way to mask the emotional and mental stresses of life. It becomes an emotional relief.  Self-injury isn’t really an option to the one in pain, it “becomes” a necessity.

Book Review: Gold in the Making: Where is God when bad things happen to you? By Ron Lee Davis

“Gold in the Making” is a great read regarding personal pain in Ron Davis’ family and his first hand observation as a pastor. Out of his suffering, he draws the reader into the sensation, “I know what you are saying!” and gives five good biblical principles of suffering as well as four strategies for coping with suffering.  He has a shepherd’s heart and integrates wonderful illustrations for helping the reader to accept and believe he understands suffering.

Book Review: Noah’s Ark by Answers in Genesis

“Noah’s Ark,” collaborated by Answers in Genesis’ staff is an excellent, concise, biblical and scientific look at the Genesis 6 Noahic Flood, specifically the Ark. If proof of Noah’s Ark were confirmed it would substantiate Scripture’s historicity yet again and be a warning of the global flood catastrophe that established billions of dead things laid down by water all over the earth. It would establish that the fossil records were not derived by a slow process of millions of years that evolutionists and humanists purport in inaccurate assessment of the geologic evidence. Continue reading

Book Review: The Human Body by Answers in Genesis

“The Human Body” is one of those favorite humbling books that gives cause for rejoicing in God’s perfect design of the human body. It is incomprehensible how foolish people can be to believe the lie that man was formed over millions of years by chance, random selection and death. The body has an incredible design, especially in its birth. Continue reading

Book Review: Social Issues: What does the Bible say about morality? by Answers in Genesis

“Social Issues” is like a bioethics seminar, only simple enough for anyone to understand. These issues are important in our culture, because of the evil of evolution and how it has twisted, distorted and misrepresented the truth. It’s one thing to discern the impossibility of evolution and discard it, but how does a Christian apply Biblical truth to defend his position on social issues. Answers in Genesis has provided a great resource for a number of questions. Continue reading

Book Review: Apemen: Separating fact from fiction by Answers in Genesis

“Apemen” is a concise Biblical answer to the erroneous evolutionary view of millions of years for man to evolve from apes. The answers given in each chapter address separate questions posed because of the desire people have to understand their origin while suppressing the truth of their origin in God.

Book Review: Charles Darwin: His life and impact by Answers in Genesis

The book “Charles Darwin” succinctly describes the master proponent for evolution. It not only describes Darwin, but also addresses several questions that arise because of his work. There are four chapters on Darwin and three chapters answering questions most likely associated with the name of Darwin and evolution. Continue reading
