Edmund Burke wrote, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” We saw that that approach to life began with Adam in the Garden of Eden. Adam was good, because he had not sinned. He had good intentions, because he did what the Lord commanded him – naming the animals and tending the garden. But Adam momentarily did not act by faith dependence on the Lord and he chose to “go along” with what Eve said and did (Gen. 3:1-6). We also saw in yesterday’s article that the Christian’s good work was to grow to spiritual parenthood and disciple others to Christ. The lack of that fulfillment is the main reason evil is encroaching on all the good in the world today. Can we change so that we do what the Lord directs? Absolutely! Continue reading

Good People Let Evil Influence Part 2: Insights
Yesterday, we looked at Edmund Burke’s statement, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” The article said, “It matters that good people do good.” People may disagree with what the good is. Some will say we should be politically active to make good change. I’d agree, but there is something more important. Some will say we need to help the poor. That is important, but there is something more important.
Discernment is necessary and that takes spiritually mature people who are willing to set aside the desires of their flesh to trust God and do what is right in every area of life. Unfortunately, Christians are fooling themselves to think that they are spiritually mature, because they are not doing the big sins and they know a little bit of God’s Word. What is a spiritually mature person? Continue reading
Good People Let Evil Influence: Insights
Edmund Burke wrote, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” That is a well-know statement and most people acknowledge that it makes sense, but are we really paying heed to it? Does it really matter? Continue reading
Insights: Israel Deleted!
The publishing giant, HarperCollins, has just produced an atlas. It says the atlas was “developed specifically for schools in the Middle East.”1 Its goals include helping kids understand the “relationship between the social and physical environment, the region’s challenges [and] its socio-economic development.” Those are reasonable goals, but the country of Israel is missing. All the other Middle East countries are there. Continue reading
Air Asia
The AirAsia jet disaster with 162 people on board is indeed baffling. Only five minutes after it requested an alternate course, but denied, nothing else is heard from or traced on the ocean off Indonesia. Flight QZ8501 was a short to medium range jet liner flying from Surabaya to Singapore and is the second commercial airline to vanish without a trace in this 2014. Continue reading

Insights: Hunger for Truth
This morning we were awakened to a couple deer eating the bird seed out of a newly placed bird feeder in the back yard. The purpose of the bird feeder was to attract the four flickers that had consumed most of the cherries from the tree. If the bird feeder was placed close to the same tree, hopefully the flickers would find the feeder and then the feeder could be slowly moved to a better location for observing the birds from upstairs and downstairs.
To our amazement and joy, two fawns had consumed all the bird seed. We found them just as they were licking the last bits of seed and looking toward our windows at “those people stuck in some kind of building”! They also found the pretzels the girls had hung in the branches, which they made at the library in town. They had been smeared with crunchy peanut butter and other various kinds of bird seeds that were hung on the branches. While we thought the birds missed out, the deer were a beautiful sight. Normally the deer would probably have preferred other food than bird seed and pretzels, food is food in the winter time, especially when the first big snow fall was on its way.
It reminds me of a favorite verse of Scripture, “A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. (Pro 27:7 NKJ) When you are hungry, you are ready to eat just about anything! Whey you are satisfied with the presence of the Lord, life in Him is sweet.
When people are hungry for the Lord, ANY Scripture is sweet. When people complain, because the pastor is not preaching their favorite subject, they just are not very hungry for the Lord and need to wait on Him. How hungry are you after the abundance of Christmas?
Insights: Christmas Gift
The clear point of Christmas is a Gift. Most people understand God’s Gift to mankind. Many people are excited to give gifts to reflect the Gift God gives to us. The question is do you really think about the purpose of that gift and how gifts we give or we receive should be viewed? Continue reading
Insight: Christmas Eve Service
I enjoy Christmas Eve services as much as any worship service. It’s been a tradition at my old church to begin at 5 p.m. and then the family can enjoy a great meal together and spend the evening as a family waiting for the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus on Christmas Day that happened over 2000 years ago.
This year, we’ll be attending a 4 p.m. service. Normally that would still be during the day, but since the sunset is about 3:52 p.m. it will be dark during most of the service. Continue reading
