The AirAsia jet disaster with 162 people on board is indeed baffling. Only five minutes after it requested an alternate course, but denied, nothing else is heard from or traced on the ocean off Indonesia. Flight QZ8501 was a short to medium range jet liner flying from Surabaya to Singapore and is the second commercial airline to vanish without a trace in this 2014.
While the world enjoys relative peace and prosperity, there are incidents like this beyond anyone’s control or understanding that have tragic ends to life.
Not one of those persons had any idea what would happen on Sunday, December 28, 2014. None of them would have gotten on the plane had they known the consequences of that flight. Did the plane go down because of the people on board or the Indian Ocean “Triangle”? We ought to listen to the wisdom of the Lord Jesus on this one,
There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4 “Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:1-5 NKJ)
We may not be able to do anything for those who may have perished in the airline disaster, but we can make sure we get right with the Lord. “Repent” means to change your thinking about the Lord’s will and humbly walk according to it! We can certainly pray for their recovery and the families and friends of the crew and passengers. But, above all, make sure you are right with the Lord Jesus and have confessed your sins and are seeking His holiness every day, through a personal devotion and a seeking after His will.
My heart goes out to the passengers and crew. My heart goes out to the family members and friends. May they find true peace in the Lord Jesus alone. May you begin 2015 with an attitude of humility and hungry pursuit for knowing the Lord Jesus and walking an obedience life in His holiness and power.
