MSG: Train Your Replacements: How to Discern Truth: 1 Timothy 4:1-5

This message was presented on March 23, 2014 as part of the 1 Timothy series.

Alertness. Alertness is one of the most important concepts of your life.  When I was going through my flight training, my reflexes and coordination were not alert to what winds could do to that TH55 (training helicopter). We called it the “eggbeater,” because it beat us up.  After I soloed, I was often by myself, which meant I no longer had an IP (instructor pilot) there to take hold of the controls. I had to be alert.

Would you agree with me it has been a long winter? Would you agree that there has been enough sickness for two years? This season has been a test to see if our lives as Christians will show the world that “Jesus is totally sufficient,” and that our joy is in Him, not circumstances. Two weeks ago, we examined 1 Timothy 3:14-15,

MSG: Training Your Replacements: How to Prioritize the Church 1 Timothy 3:14-15

This message was presented on March 2, 2014 as part of the 1 Timothy series.

My Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, is here in our midst. I wish He would tell you how much He loves you, but today, He’s asked me to do it. I don’t understand why, because He could assemble some rocks and they could do a much better job than I, but He chose the plan. When I think of the holiness of Jesus, I think, “In my sins and struggles, what am I doing here?” He could have used some of His holy angels from Michael and Gabriel’s army and they’d do a much better job, but He chose the plan.  Yes, I wish He was physically here! We’d be amazed at His presence, His words and His truth.  Continue reading

MSG: Train Your Replacements: How to Disciple Men to Serve 1 Timothy 3:8-13

This message was presented on February 23, 2014 as part of the series on 1 Timothy.

Last week we began looking at the qualifications of the elder and I wanted to make sure we understood that first verse. Paul said, “This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.” (1 Tim. 3:1 NKJ) I emphasized that word “if” and said it was not a Third Class Condition as it was in 1 Tim. 2:15, but a First Class Condition, which means the phrase is a statement of fact. In other words, it is not saying, “if a man desires the position (maybe he does and maybe he doesn’t).” Continue reading

The question came up from last week’s message, “What roles should, or can a woman serve in outside of the church?” I’m very open to this, so come to the home group that meets on Wednesday nights, here at the church at 7pm and we’ll discuss it. I’m interested in your thoughts. You might feel like Job, not knowing why things happen. Let’s talk.

My custom is to walk through the book of the Bible we’re studying and then deal with related topics from the text at the end. That way…if the Rapture happens, I don’t have to deal with them! No seriously, I want you to have the flow of the text and we’ll come back to them. You are always welcome to ask or write down questions, or get together. Continue reading
