I’ve begun reading through Scripture again (a little early) for my devotions as I read through Scripture each year, and wanted to get a jumpstart on 2014. I was motivated in the study of “The Joy of the Promise” recently and saw a remarkable phrase in Genesis 4:1, “Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” Continue reading

Insights: Eyes cast down
As I had prepared an Advent message on “The Joy of the Promise,” I had spent time in Genesis 2 and 3 and I was reminded of the great passage of Genesis 4:4-5. It’s the first account of how God confronted sin. He did confront it, but He didn’t confront it in the same way most Christians do. Continue reading
Book Review: Begin by Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge
“Begin” by Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge from Answers in Genesis is a great beginner book for new Christians and those who may question the veracity of the creation account. Ken Ham and his son-in-law Bodie Hodge have teamed up to organize a simple, yet powerful book to settle the hearts of new believers and anyone who may question the Genesis account of creation. Insights: Sweat ‘til Death
In preparation for the message today from Genesis 3, I was looking at the passage further down the page, specifically, Genesis 3:19. It is an interesting passage, “ In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” Continue reading
SGL: Dealing with Anger Expressions
Home group is normally a relaxing place for affirming spiritual growth in followers of Christ. People are there because they want to be there and grow with other like-minded followers of Christ. It might come because of conviction over sin, a political statement made by one of the participants or someone was having a terrible, horrible, no good day! Continue reading
Insights: Work in Colossians 1:29
I’m preparing a message from Genesis 2 and 3 for our advent season and the passage begins with Genesis 2:15, “Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” God put Adam to work in a perfect environment before the Fall. That indicates the biblical importance of work and the blessing that comes through it. God put Adam to work, so Adam would learn to depend on the Lord. Continue reading
Insights: Thanksgiving Proclamation: Abraham Lincoln
Thanksgiving is still a celebrated holiday in America and the closest to giving thanks to our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. While the world refuses to give thanks (Rom.1:21), we fall on our knees in humble gratitude for the blessings of liberty to worship the Lord and draw people into His blessed presence. Many of our former presidents and politicians spoke of their faith in our Sovereign and knew that He alone was responsible for our freedom and blessings. Continue reading
