MSG: Choosing God’s Will – Part 1 – Ephesians 1:11

This is the first of a series on understanding and choosing God’s will. 

Right now, all of us have decisions to make. They might be about school, work, your home or even what to do this afternoon. I believe you are here because you want to do God’s will. You even believe, “Not my will, but Your will be done.”

Okay, we often don’t check in with the Lord for His will on some things, like, I’ll bet my wife didn’t check in with the Lord about whether she was going to get the French Silk or the  Key lime pie or when I was trying to decide if we’d watch the next Band of Brothers DVD or the movie Robert Griggs recommended, “The Mark.”

Bruce Larson tells the story of a man and wife and their two children who were biking in Florida. The parents taught their children the importance of bicycle safety, especially safety helmets and riding with traffic. They were biking along one beautiful weekend and saw a sign, “Naturalist Camp.” Without thinking, the dad thought, “I like nature. We should check this out for future camping sights.” Within five minutes of riding into the Naturalist’s Camp, five bare naked people were riding in the opposite direction on their bikes. The father was a “little” surprised. Then little Johnny said, “Uuuhhh Dad, oohh no, they’re not wearing their safety helmets.” Continue reading

We had the best VBS in several years. Thanks to Cristi, Vickie, Holly, Gabe and a full staff of helpers and workers!  This VBS Sunday is special, because of the culmination of ministry to children and adults and the enjoyable picnic to follow. The theme and message this year was on Jonah. God spoke to Jonah, who decided he did not want to obey God’s Word.

How many of you would be willing to move to northern Iraq right now? The country is being taken over by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, which is a violent extremist group worse than Al-Qaeda. Continue reading

My granddaughter Sarah, will often say, “Grandpa, look at my picture!”  I’ll respond, “Good job, Sarah!” Then her sister Emma will say, “Grandpa, look at MY picture!” And I’ll say, “Emma, that is very good!” Then at times Sarah will say, “Grandpa, do you want me to show you my new dance?” And of course, I’ll say, “Sarah, that would be great!” And after affirming her, her little sister Emma, will say, “Grandpa, watch my new dance!” And she’ll try something similar.
