This excellent book, “Because They Hate,” by Brigitte Gabriel reveals American political and religious foolishness.  For too many years, it has been politically incorrect to speak against Islam.  Many, including Muslims, claim that Islam is a religion of peace. Gabriel exposes that Islam is not a religion of peace. Islam’s goal is world dominion at any cost.  There are many unsuspecting Muslims in name only, but they will not speak against radical Islamic terrorism, because they fear reprisal against their own lives and families.

This is not merely a historical study, but a personal autobiographical account of Brigitte Gabriel’s life of living in a home bunker for seven years, while the Muslims bombed and terrorized Christians and Jews in Lebanon. One day, during one of those bombings, Brigitte’s mother was outside of the bunker and while Brigitte and her father made it into the bunker, her mother did not and she was hit by shrapnel in the leg.  As Brigitte sought medical attention for her mother in a Jewish hospital, she learned that all she had heard about the Jews was a lie.  Jewish medical personnel were kind, helpful and very resourceful to foreigners, even as they, the Jews, were targets of radical Muslims. When Brigitte had gone five days without food caring for her mother, she tried to cover her own lack of resources, but Jewish nurses came to her aid and welcomed her into their world.

However the same was not true regarding Muslims. Brigitte served as a translator between patients who spoke Arabic and Jewish doctors who spoke English (she taught herself English by watching English television shows). By this ability to understand and speak English, she was able to see people for who they were. She wrote regarding a Muslim woman, who would have died if it had not been for Jewish medical people. She saw the truth regarding the hatred of some Muslims,

And for the first time in my life I saw evil.  I realized that this Muslim couldn’t love the Jews even after they had saved her life. And when you are unable to be grateful for the people who saved your life, you have no soul. When humans become devoid of compassion of sense of forgiveness and open-mindedness, when they surrender their humanity to hate, they become an evil force of darkness that is irreconcilable with hope, love, and peace.” (p. 80)

Brigitte Gabriel incessantly pursued work opportunities. One day, she walked right into a Jewish general’s office, properly going through security, and asked to serve as his secretary. Rejection did not stop her from her pursuit. She ended up in Jerusalem and, as the Lord was leading her, she became a reporter and an anchor on news media. Eventually she moved to the United States and worked in similar fields.

The bulk of her story is a well-defined warning to the United States to wake up to the mounting goal of Islam – “world domination.” Islam has not deployed a military frontal assault. Islam is seeking to destroy America like an undetected deadly virus spreading its disease in a weakened host becoming weaker by the year. She writes,

The jihadists were encouraged by the West’s ineffectual policies and pathetic response to provocations and confrontations manufactured by Islamists. During the Iranian hostage crisis, while Jimmy Carter alternately groveled and bungled, Ayatollah Khomeini exultingly proclaimed, “America cannot do a d*** thing!” This became a slogan and battle cry throughout the Middle East. (p. 125)

Additionally she writes concerning America’s weakness and lack of ability to confront terrorists,

When Iran’s vicious puppet Hezbollah blew up the Marines in Lebanon in 1983, America turned tail and ran, leaving the Christians to be slaughtered in town after town.  It sent a strong, loud, and clear message to the Muslim radicals of the world, including Osama bin Laden: America is no longer the power it used to be.” (p. 125)

Because of American weakness, radical Muslims have stirred up rage all over the world and Gabriel noted many examples: like 2 million killed in southern Sudan in 1983; in 1999, Muslims imposed Sharia law in Nigeria and destroyed at least 10000 along with many churches ; and then in 2002 and following in Indonesia by means of the nightclub bombings, Muslims killed 202 and clashes with Christians killed 19,000.

She notes many of the Muslim attacks shocked the world, but because of a weakness in slumber, America shook her head and went back to sleep. There was the 1985 TWA flight 847 and cruise ship Achilles Lauro. Then in 1986, Pan Am flight 73 and the Pan Am flight 103 in 1988. They bombed a military compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1995 and the Khobar Towers in 1996. They bombed the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000. The inept Clinton administration cut the US defense budget and continued the social development of political correctness, political corruption and arrogance. This put America in a lethargic state, and meanwhile the Chinese stole our military secrets. (p. 130) She wrote, “The United States was in the middle of a slumber party while the Islamists were organizing, training, recruiting, and infiltrating our country and counting on our blindness, carelessness and ignorance. “ (p. 130)

She brilliantly exposes mutations of the vicious virus. For example, she writes,

CAIR masquerades as a civil rights organization, but its hidden agenda is to Islamize America. The cofounder and chairman, Omar Ahmad, A Palestinian American, told a Muslim audience in Fremont, California, in 1998, “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but [rather] to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.” (p. 138)

She is not afraid to call a spade a spade when others would not hold Muslims to account. After the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Arabs around the world danced in the streets. She writes, “Both the attacks themselves and their glorification in the name of God are incomprehensible to the vast majority of Americans.  Americans asked why people would rejoice at the loss of innocent life.  There is a three-word answer that is both simple and complex: because they hate.” (p. 145)

Brigitte does not mince words, “They hate our way of life. They hate our freedom. They hate our democracy. They hate the practice of every religion but their own. They don’t just disagree. They hate.” (p. 145).  Additionally, she writes, “People that tell you that Islam is a religion of peace are only announcing their ignorance and lack of understanding of a poisonous formula that has been developed for mass use on the whole world.” (p. 149).

It is extremely rare for someone to write the truth regarding the goals of Islam. She writes, “Muslims are encouraged to lie if, in the opinion of the liar, telling the lie will be “good” for Islam. (p. 149)  And finally she notes, “Amir Taheri, author of numerous books on Islam and the Middle East, states that according to Islam, “Muslims have every right to lie and to deceive their adversaries, and a promise made to non-Muslims can be broken whenever necessary.” (p. 149-150)

Will America wake up? I pray they do.  Yet there is only one cure and the government does not have it.  America’s only cure is faith in Jesus Christ and a revival transformation back to worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is the answer. I’m thankful for Brigitte’s strength to pursue this evil well beyond her own pain and face the realities of life.  I’m grateful for her courage to be truthful by exposing evil. This is a must read. America is a primary target, because to weaken and destroy America, will make Israel vulnerable to the Muslim’s primary goal of destroying Israel.
